Arum addresses the media in San Antonio, Texas
San Antonio, TX-Immediately following the main event on Saturday, Arum addressed the media at the post conference and made it quick and simple. He touched on (Chavez) Junior’s weight issues, training camp and shutting the mouths of his critics.
On the day of the weigh in Chavez had to strip down to his birthday suite before climbing on the scale. Making weight Friday afternoon (159.5), the middleweight champion would enter the ring twenty four hours later some twenty plus pounds heavier, reports were that he entered the ring 181 lbs. Arum would claim the holidays played a big part in the champ’s weight problems. “We know now we will never schedule a fight for Julio immediately after the holidays. The tamales and all the holiday food are just too much to deal with” Said Arum.
The middleweight champion has come under fire as of late for not fighting Sergio Martinez who many recognize as the real king pin of the division. “In three of four months, this kid can beat the best this division has to offer. He will be ready and will be anybody in the division.” stated Arum. Could this mean we finally get to see Chavez Jr. and Martinez be next on the horizon?
